ARTIST STATEMENT

My practice explores liminal conditions through an investigation of light, surface, and spatial perception. Working somewhere in-between painting and installation, I am interested in how surfaces can hold traces of time and physical encounter. Through casting surfaces in architectural spaces associated with lived experience, I create works that emerge from direct contact with walls and built environments, carrying records of accumulation, erosion, and inhabitation.

Experiences of loss and change have sharpened my sensitivity to impermanence. I am drawn to instability not as chaotic disorder, but as a condition of transition. Through casting, layering, and installation, I attempt to preserve traces of fleeting experiences and shifting conditions rather than document specific moments. Abstraction functions as a means of sustaining uncertainty, allowing perception to remain open and unresolved.

Material responsiveness remains central to my process. Working with translucent textiles and cast surfaces, I create works that exist between painting and architecture. Light, shadow, gravity, and spatial relationships become active elements within the work, shaping how it is encountered and understood. Installation extends these concerns beyond the surface itself, allowing the surrounding environment to participate in the viewing experience.

Ultimately, I am interested in how surfaces can register encounters with space, light, and time. My work invites slow and attentive viewing, encouraging an awareness of subtle shifts, ambiguities, and the unstable nature of perception. Following the completion of my Fine Art degree in 2026, I am continuing to refine this practice through ongoing studio investigation and research-led enquiry.
